Orchards & Acreage: Exploring Green Bluff Just North of Spokane, WA

Orchards & Acreage: Exploring Green Bluff Just North of Spokane, WA

When people ask me where I live, I usually smile before answering.

I live on Green Bluff — just north of Spokane — and it’s one of the most special places in the Inland Northwest.

If you’ve ever driven the winding roads past farm stands, watched the sunset roll across the hills, or picked fruit with your kids in the summer, you probably understand why so many people fall in love with this area. Green Bluff has a way of slowing life down, which makes it the perfect place for a busy-body like me.

As both a homeowner in Green Bluff and a Spokane Realtor, I’ve had the chance to experience Green Bluff from two perspectives: living here day to day, and helping clients discover the lifestyle it offers. And while every property is different, the reason people move here is often the same — space, beauty, and a connection to the land, all within easy reach of Spokane.

Let’s take a closer look at what makes Green Bluff so special.

A Historic Farming Community Just Outside Spokane

Green Bluff has deep agricultural roots, and that heritage is still very much alive today.

The area is home to more than 30 family farms and orchards, many of which have been operating for generations. Rather than large commercial agriculture, Green Bluff has always been known for its smaller, family-run farms that welcome visitors.

That’s what makes it so unique.

Throughout the year, people from all over Spokane drive up to the bluff to experience:

  • U-pick fruit orchards

  • seasonal farm markets

  • harvest festivals

  • pumpkin patches

  • local wineries and tasting rooms

It’s become a destination for families across the Inland Northwest, but for those of us who live here, it’s simply part of everyday life.

Local Favorites Around Green Bluff

One of my favorite things about living here is the number of small, locally owned businesses scattered across the bluff. Each one has its own personality, and visiting them is something we do year-round.

One of the most well-known stops is Beck's Harvest House, which many Spokane families associate with fall traditions. Between the corn maze, seasonal festivals, and incredible country cooking, it’s easy to spend an entire afternoon there.

Another longtime favorite is Cherry Hill Orchard & Market, where summer cherry picking feels like a Spokane rite of passage.

For wine lovers, Trezzi Farm Winery offers a beautiful vineyard setting that honestly reminds me a little of the Italian countryside. It’s one of those places where you can sit outside, enjoy a glass of wine, and watch the sun settle over the farmland.

Our absolute favorite is Big Barn Brewing Company. I’ve hosted annual client events here and it’s so charming. In addition to the barns and beer, there are great outdoor areas and they have U-pick options throughout the year. And, certain times of year, they have the best BBQ truck that parks to offer the perfect place to enjoy a long dinner.

And newer additions like Wildland Cooperative bring together the best of Green Bluff with their house produced beers, collaboration wines with Townsend Cellars, farm fresh food, local art, and a fun event calendar that highlight the environmental groups, musicians and more.

The wonderful thing is that none of these places feel overly commercial. They still feel like family farms, which is exactly what they are.

What Living on Green Bluff Is Really Like

People often imagine living on Green Bluff as purely rural, but the lifestyle here is actually a balance.

Yes, we have space, farmland, and open skies. But Spokane is still incredibly close. And the Mead’s business center has all the basics you could need.

Many properties here sit on larger parcels of land, and that’s one of the biggest draws for buyers. It’s common to find homes on:

  • 1–3 acre homesites

  • 5–10 acre hobby farms

  • 20+ acre agricultural parcels

Some homeowners plant orchards or gardens. Others keep horses or chickens. Some simply enjoy the privacy and room to breathe.

It’s a lifestyle that feels both grounded and peaceful.

The Views Are Something Special

One of the things I didn’t fully appreciate until living here is how beautiful the views are.

Because Green Bluff sits at a higher elevation than much of Spokane, many homes look out over rolling farmland and distant hills. On clear evenings, the sunsets can be incredible — soft golden light stretching across fields and orchards.

Some areas also have views toward Mount Spokane, which rises just northeast of the bluff and creates a stunning backdrop throughout the year.

Those views are part of daily life here, and they’re something many of my clients immediately notice when they tour properties.

Life on the Bluff Through the Seasons

Another reason people fall in love with Green Bluff is that it changes dramatically with the seasons.

Spring brings blossoms across the orchards and the return of farm markets.

Summer is the berry and cherry season, when locals and visitors alike head out to pick fresh fruit straight from the trees.

Fall is probably the most famous season here. Apple orchards, pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and harvest festivals bring families up to the bluff every weekend.

Winter is quieter, but in its own way, just as beautiful. Snow settles across the farmland, and everything feels peaceful and still.

Living in Green Bluff means getting to experience those rhythms every year.

Surprisingly Convenient to Spokane

Despite its rural feel, Green Bluff is surprisingly convenient.

Most residents reach Spokane via Newport Highway, Highway 2, or Day-Mount Spokane Road, and downtown Spokane is typically about a 25–30 minute drive depending on where you are on the bluff.

Another exciting factor for homeowners here is the continued progress on the
North Spokane Corridor.

This major regional highway project is improving north-south travel across Spokane, making it easier to move between the northern suburbs, downtown, and the Spokane Valley. For people living on Green Bluff, that means rural living with increasingly efficient access to the city.

Why So Many Buyers Are Drawn to Green Bluff

As a Spokane Realtor, I often show homes throughout the region — from downtown neighborhoods to lake communities to suburban developments.

But Green Bluff is different.

The buyers who are drawn here are usually looking for something very specific:

  • land and privacy

  • beautiful natural surroundings

  • connection to agriculture and local food

  • a peaceful setting near Spokane

It’s not unusual for someone to visit the bluff for years before eventually deciding they want to live here. And honestly, I understand why. As that’s exactly what Conrad and I did when we decided to move up here.

Thinking About Living on Green Bluff?

Living on Green Bluff has been one of the joys of my life here in Spokane. It’s a place where you can watch the sunset over farmland, buy produce from your neighbors, and still be close enough to the city for work, schools, and community. Every property here tells a different story — from small acreage homes to large agricultural parcels — and part of my job is helping people find the one that fits their vision.

If you’ve ever driven through Green Bluff and wondered what it might be like to live here, I’d love to help you explore that possibility. Feel free to view my listings here or reach out to me. Because sometimes the perfect Spokane home isn’t in the city at all, it’s waiting just beyond the pumpkin patch.
